RFK Jr.’s New Cooking Show Targets Affordable Nutrition With ‘Real Food’ Meals

HHS Secretary RFK Jr. has launched his new television series, “The Real Food Show,” aimed at teaching Americans how to prepare nutritious, affordable meals. The government-backed program features RFK Jr. cooking MAHA-approved dishes alongside celebrity chefs, with all meals priced at $5 or less per serving.

In a recent statement, RFK Jr. emphasized that fast food costs between $12 and $14 per meal while home-cooked options provide better nutrition without breaking the bank. “Fast food is not less expensive,” he said. “People can eat a lot cheaper at home and a lot better food.” He described cooking as a “sacred ritual” that has been “abandoned” amid an epidemic of isolation in the country, adding that reconnecting through shared meals could combat disconnection.

The show’s inaugural episode, featuring Chef Andrew Gruel preparing wild Alaska salmon cakes with arugula salad, is now available. RFK Jr. cited a 2023 study in Current Developments in Nutrition showing over half of men and nearly three-quarters of women regularly cook at home, though he noted many Americans have “forgotten how to cook.” He stressed the importance of reintroducing cooking as a practical step toward improved health and community bonding.
