U.S. Military Conducts Lethal Strike on Venezuelan Drug Vessel in Caribbean

The U.S. military carried out a “lethal strike” in the Caribbean against a Venezuelan drug boat, according to reports. Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed details of the operation, which occurred amid heightened tensions over drug trafficking. President Donald Trump announced the action during a press conference in the Oval Office, stating, “Over the last few minutes, [we] literally shot out a boat, a drug-carrying boat.” He emphasized the significant quantity of drugs aboard the vessel but provided no information about those onboard.

The strike follows U.S. military deployments near Venezuela, including the arrival of three warships last month as part of an anti-drug cartel mission. Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro condemned the move, calling it an “extravagant, unjustifiable, immoral and absolutely criminal and bloody threat.” The Trump administration has previously accused Maduro’s government of collaborating with drug cartels to traffic narcotics to the United States.

Details about the operation, including the vessel’s operators, remain limited. The U.S. military has not yet released further updates on the incident.
