Kentucky Student-Athlete Accused of Hiding Deceased Infant in Trash Bag

A 21-year-old University of Kentucky student-athlete faces criminal charges after allegedly attempting to conceal the body of her deceased infant inside a trash bag in a closet. Laken Snelling, a member of the Kentucky Stunt team, was arrested and charged with abuse of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence, and concealing the birth of an infant.

Authorities reported that Snelling was identified as the mother of the child. Officers responded to a call on August 27 at a residence in downtown Lexington, where they discovered the infant’s body in a trash bag inside a closet. The child was pronounced dead at the scene. Snelling admitted to police that she had cleaned up after giving birth and placed the baby and cleaning supplies into the trash bag.

The University of Kentucky confirmed Snelling’s status as a senior student-athlete but directed further inquiries to local law enforcement. A Fayette County coroner is investigating the cause of death, while Snelling is scheduled to appear in court for arraignment on Tuesday at 1 p.m.
