The hashtag references a deleted tweet from May 30, 2017, in which Trump wrote: “Despite the constant negative press covfefe.” That message received over 100,000 retweets and 100,000 likes before being removed.

Trump announced on Monday that he would not return to Twitter despite Elon Musk’s acquisition of the platform for $44 billion. During his Fox News interview, Trump stated: “I am not going on Twitter, I am going to stay on TRUTH.” He emphasized that Truth Social, which launched last month under its own cloud services after beta-testing since February, has generated stronger engagement than Twitter due to fewer bots and fake accounts.

Trump’s decision to debut on Truth Social aligns with his broader strategy to avoid Twitter entirely, calling it “a platform that is full of bots and fake accounts.” The former president confirmed he would begin “TRUTHing” this week on the new platform, which he described as offering a superior alternative for sharing his voice.
