Trump Turns 80 With German Chancellor’s Custom ’47’ Jersey

On Sunday, President Trump officially turned 80 years old.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who recently sparred with Trump over the war in Iran, presented the president with a custom “Trump 47” version of the German national soccer team’s jersey during the World Cup co-hosted by Mexico and Canada.

The gesture follows Merz’s history of diplomatic gifts for Trump. Last year, the chancellor gave the former president a golf club and a gold-framed copy of his paternal grandfather’s birth certificate, which details how that ancestor lived in western Germany before emigrating to the United States.

Merz shared photos of the exchange on social media with the caption: “After all, we’re on the same team.”

The event took place during the G7 summit, where French President Emmanuel Macron presented each leader with a personalized bicycle for the upcoming Cycling World Championships in the French Alps. Trump smiled while holding the jersey for a photograph before setting it aside.
