Trump Administration Allegedly Offers Position to NYC Mayor Amid Election Tensions

The Trump administration is reportedly offering New York City Mayor Eric Adams a federal position if he withdraws from his re-election bid, aiming to weaken Democratic candidate Zohran Mamdani’s prospects. According to unverified claims, a source with “direct knowledge” of discussions stated the administration proposed Adams a role at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development during his recent visit to Florida.

Republican officials and business leaders have sought to unite anti-Mamdani voters behind alternative candidates, as Mamdani, a democratic socialist, surged in the Democratic primary. Former governor Andrew Cuomo, now running as an independent, was initially seen as the preferred choice to challenge Mamdani. However, Cuomo’s defeat in the June primary left the race unsettled, with some surveys suggesting he could still beat Mamdani in a head-to-head matchup.

Adams has not directly addressed reports of meetings with Trump advisers but avoided confirming whether he would exit the race. Despite running fourth in polls, Adams remains in the contest as an independent. Meanwhile, Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa, founder of the Guardian Angels, has previously dismissed offers to join the administration. Intermediaries for Trump have engaged with Adams’ associates about potential exits, though no specific job details were confirmed.

The administration faces pressure to fill vacant ambassadorships and law enforcement roles, with Adams’ background as a former police captain and Sliwa’s focus on public safety drawing interest. However, Adams has insisted he plans to continue his campaign despite his low polling numbers.
