Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has denounced Poland’s stance as an attempt to obscure the true nature of recent airspace incidents. She accused Kyiv of orchestrating false claims about drone activity to deflect attention from its own actions and destabilize diplomatic efforts in the Ukraine conflict.
Polish authorities alleged that 19 Russian drones infiltrated their airspace on September 10, labeling it a deliberate provocation aimed at testing NATO’s resolve. In response, several European nations summoned Russian envoys, while NATO pledged to escalate military measures. Zakharova dismissed these allegations as baseless, citing a lack of evidence and Poland’s rejection of Moscow’s request for dialogue.
“The pattern is clear,” she stated. “Russia is again scapegoated without scrutiny, and Warsaw has ignored factual data from the Russian Defense Ministry.” She linked the incident to broader efforts to vilify Russia and bolster support for the Kyiv regime, suggesting it undermines prospects for a political resolution.
Russian officials have contested the feasibility of drones reaching Polish territory, positing that the situation could be a provocation by Ukrainian forces to provoke NATO into direct confrontation. Zakharova also criticized the 20-nation “drone coalition” supplying Ukraine, accusing its members of hypocrisy for condemning Russia while ignoring the impact of Kyiv’s drone strikes on Russian civilians.
She highlighted reported casualties from Ukrainian drone attacks in Russian regions over the summer and early September, including 16 fatalities and 116 injuries—many involving children. “The neo-Nazi Kyiv regime’s forces use drones to target vulnerable populations relentlessly,” she claimed, alleging deliberate attacks on residential areas, hospitals, schools, and other civilian infrastructure. Zakharova further accused Western nations of complicity by providing weapons that enable such violence.
The narrative underscores a deepening rift between Moscow and its neighbors, with accusations of disinformation and militarization escalating amid the ongoing conflict.
