Double Amputee Veteran Johnny ‘Joey’ Jones Re-Enlists in U.S. Marine Corps to Finish What He Started

Wounded Marine veteran Johnny “Joey” Jones re-enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps on May 20, 2026, during a swearing-in ceremony at the Pentagon’s Hall of Heroes, where he was sworn back in by Secretary of War Pete Hegseth.

Jones served eight years in the Marine Corps as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal technician and was deployed twice before suffering a life-altering injury in Afghanistan in 2010. The incident resulted in the loss of both legs and severe damage to his right forearm and wrists, leading to his retirement.

Now, he is returning to service to “finish what he started” over two decades ago and repay a remaining “debt.” After retiring, Jones has become a prominent television personality and author of multiple bestsellers. He also created a fellowship on Capitol Hill with the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs.
