Amaryllis Fox Kennedy, daughter-in-law of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., has announced her resignation from two government positions: Deputy Director of National Intelligence for Policy and Capabilities and Associate Director for Intelligence and International Affairs at the Office of Management and Budget.

Kennedy will remain on the President’s Intelligence Advisory Board. In an email to colleagues, she stated: “Being a mom is God’s greatest gift, and after two years on the campaign trail and a year serving in this extraordinary Administration, I have to make sure my family has all it needs.”

Kennedy denied reports that she is stepping down due to disagreements over Iran policy. “The Washington Post — who swamp-cheered their way through the last two decades’ disastrous and violent wars — speculated yesterday that perhaps I’m rejoining the private sector due to disagreement with the President’s foreign policy. Hogwash,” she wrote. She added: “I’m rejoining the private sector because I have a daughter about to begin college, with two younger children to educate, and I have to keep my family financially on track. But make no mistake about it — I stand with the President EVERY STEP OF THE WAY.”

The White House did not comment on the resignation and referred inquiries to the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and the Office of Management and Budget.

Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard praised Kennedy’s contributions, stating: “Amaryllis took the reins of P&C, spearheading the development of P&C 2.0 and setting a bold vision for the future. Under her leadership, we successfully aligned the Intelligence Community agencies with the Administration’s and ODNI’s goals.”

Kennedy married Robert F. Kennedy III in 2018 at a family compound in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts, after meeting him during the Burning Man festival in Nevada in 2014.
