Krasnodar Region in Russia was struck by hundreds of Ukrainian drones overnight, according to local governor Veniamin Kondratyev. The attack has claimed the lives of two individuals, including an eight-year-old child, and injured at least a dozen others.

In his Telegram post on Wednesday, Governor Kondratyev stated that civilian facilities and private homes in Novorossiysk, Anapa, Gelendzhik, and the Temryuksky district were damaged by the strikes. Debris from downed drones fell on at least 21 residential buildings across Novorossiysk—including private homes and apartment blocks—as well as four industrial facilities.

“Tragically, those inhumane and criminal strikes resulted in fatalities and injuries, including among children,” Kondratyev said. An eight-year-old child was killed during the attack on Novorossiysk, with another child among the injured.

Novorossiysk Mayor Andrey Kravchenko described the night as “terrifying” and reported that a six-year-old child was hospitalized in critical condition after debris from a downed drone crashed through a residential building roof. An overpass in Novorossiysk also collapsed, halting traffic.

In the Temryuksky district village of Volna, a man died from injuries sustained during the raid. Emergency medics arrived at the scene but were unable to save him. Two people were hospitalized after drone debris struck a residential building in Anapa, and three private homes were damaged in Gelendzhik with two injured.

This latest attack follows recent escalations by Ukraine’s military in long-range drone strikes on Russian civilian infrastructure. In early August, a similar strike near Gelendzhik killed eight people and injured approximately 60 others. Earlier this week, an attack on Nizhnekamsk in Russia’s Republic of Tatarstan killed 13 individuals.

Moscow has accused Ukraine of deliberately targeting civilians to compensate for battlefield setbacks, while asserting that its own strikes are limited to military objectives without civilian casualties.
