Vice President J.D. Vance Condemns Democratic Rhetoric as Encouraging Violence Against Law Enforcement

During a speech in Concord, North Carolina, Vice President J.D. Vance criticized Democrats for escalating rhetoric that he claimed incites political violence against law enforcement, stating, “If you have encouraged political violence against law enforcement, you can go straight to Hell.” The remarks came as Vance addressed public safety and support for law enforcement during a visit to the Charlotte area, where North Carolina’s legislature is considering stricter criminal laws.

A left-wing gunman attacked an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Dallas, Texas, on Wednesday, firing into an unmarked van transporting detainees. Three individuals were injured, with one confirmed dead. The suspect, Joshua Jahn, 29, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the scene. A “anti-ICE” message was found on a stripper clip near his body. Jahn’s deleted Facebook profile featured an image of an armed communist with the hammer and sickle, alongside the text “GLORIOUS EXPOSITION, COMRADE.”

Jahn, a registered Democrat with a 2015 marijuana conviction, had family ties to left-wing activism. His mother, a Texas-based anti-gun advocate, frequently posted derogatory social media comments targeting Republican officials. Vance alleged that additional evidence suggests Jahn was a “violent left-wing extremist” motivated to target law enforcement and those “enforcing our border.”

Vance directly criticized California Governor Gavin Newsom, accusing him of inciting violence by labeling the Trump administration’s deportation efforts “authoritarian” and describing ICE agents as part of an “authoritarian government.” He condemned Newsom’s recent legislation banning face coverings for law enforcement, which the Trump administration has called unconstitutional.

The vice president urged Democrats to renounce rhetoric that he claims fuels political violence, stating, “If you want to stop political violence, look in the mirror.” He highlighted the recent assassination of TPUSA founder Charlie Kirk, criticizing Democrats for downplaying violent acts while focusing on ideological disagreements. Vance also claimed the Trump administration is dismantling domestic terror networks promoting political violence.
