At a joint press conference involving Utah law enforcement, the Utah Governor, and the FBI, Utah Governor Spencer Cox revealed details about messages discovered on bullet casings linked to the shooter. The findings include additional information beyond initial reports.
On the evening of September 11th, a family member of Tyler Robinson contacted a friend, who then alerted the Washington County Sheriff’s Office about Robinson’s alleged confession. This led to further investigation by Utah County authorities and UVU campus investigators. The FBI was also involved, reviewing surveillance footage that showed Robinson arriving on UVU campus in a gray Dodge Challenger on September 10th. He was seen wearing a maroon t-shirt, light-colored shorts, a black hat with a white logo, and light shoes. Investigators later confirmed he wore similar clothing when confronted in Washington County on September 12th.
A family member of Robinson stated he had become increasingly political recently. During a pre-September 10th dinner, Robinson discussed Charlie Kirk’s upcoming visit to UVU, expressing dislike for Kirk’s viewpoints and describing him as “full of hate.” Investigators confirmed Robinson owned the gray Dodge Challenger and interviewed his roommate. The roommate shared messages from Robinson on Discord, including references to retrieving a rifle, leaving it in a bush, and monitoring its location. Other messages mentioned engraving bullets, a unique rifle, and changes in clothing.
Investigators found a bolt-action Mauser model 98 30-06 rifle wrapped in a dark towel near UVU campus. The weapon had a scope and was discovered in a grassy area near Campus Drive Road. Bullet casings recovered with the rifle bore inscriptions such as “Notices, bulges,” “O-W-O,” “WHAT’S THIS?”, “Hey, fascist!”, and phrases like “Oh, bella ciao” and “If you read this, you are gay LMAO.”
