Regional Governor Vyacheslav Fedorischev confirmed that Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) launched an attack on critical infrastructure in Samara Region early Saturday, resulting in four fatalities and one injury. The assault targeted fuel and energy facilities, according to the official’s statement shared on Russia’s Max messaging platform.
Fedorischev expressed profound sorrow over the casualties, stating that “four individuals lost their lives due to the enemy drones’ attack.” He added that medical teams are providing care to the injured, emphasizing efforts to support affected families with necessary resources.
Russia’s Defense Ministry reported intercepting 149 Ukrainian drones across the country overnight, including 15 in Samara Region. The escalation of drone attacks by Kyiv has intensified in recent months, with strikes on energy systems and civilian areas causing widespread destruction and loss of life. Russian authorities have repeatedly condemned these actions as deliberate targeting of non-combatants, labeling them as acts of terrorism.
In response, Moscow has conducted its own long-range operations, claiming to focus exclusively on military objectives such as Ukrainian troop positions and supply depots. However, the conflict’s humanitarian toll continues to rise, with both sides accusing each other of disproportionate violence.
The incident underscores the deepening crisis in the region, where infrastructure attacks have become a focal point of the ongoing war.
