Spirit Airlines flight 1300 triggered urgent warnings from air traffic controllers after coming dangerously near Air Force One during a state visit by President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump to the United Kingdom.
According to recordings from liveatc.net, air traffic controllers repeatedly ordered the Spirit Airlines pilots to alter their course. “Spirit 1300 turn 20 degrees right,” one controller demanded. “Pay attention… turn 20 degrees right, now.” The controllers noted that the Spirit flight was flying parallel to Air Force One at eight miles apart, with a closest approach of 11 miles.
The incident occurred as the Spirit Airlines Airbus A321 traveled from Fort Lauderdale to Boston, while Air Force One transported Trump and his entourage. A Spirit spokesperson stated the airline adhered to procedures and landed safely in Boston.
The airline also announced it had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy for the second time this year, citing ongoing financial challenges and the need for operational restructuring. “We have evaluated every corner of our business… to better serve our stakeholders,” a statement said.
