Runway Incursion Forces American Airlines Flight to Abort Takeoff at LAX

An American Airlines flight was forced to cancel its takeoff at Los Angeles International Airport after another aircraft entered the departure runway without authorization. The incident occurred around 10:35 p.m. local time on Sunday when AeroLogic Flight 619 crossed the runway, prompting air traffic controllers to instruct the Boston-bound aircraft to abort its departure.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed the “dangerous situation,” stating the closest proximity between the two aircraft was approximately 5,200 feet. Flight tracking data revealed AeroLogic Flight 618 had just landed at LAX after a 10-hour journey from Shanghai, China. ABC World News Tonight shared audio of the incident, with a commentator noting the near-miss could have been catastrophic under different circumstances.

American Airlines later rebooked passengers on an alternative aircraft, thanking its crew for their “quick action.” The airline emphasized no injuries or damage occurred. AeroLogic stated it is cooperating with authorities and investigating the breach. FAA records indicate 101 runway incursions caused by pilot deviations in 2025, including a similar incident at Chicago’s Midway International Airport in March.
