Nick Reiner, 32, has been formally charged with two counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of his parents, actor-director Rob Reiner (78) and Michele Singer Reiner (68), according to Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office officials. The charges carry a maximum sentence of life without parole or death.
The Los Angeles DA announced the charges during a press conference on Tuesday, two days after Nick Reiner was arrested on suspicion of killing his parents. Prior to the murders, Nick Reiner lived on his parents’ property.
Sources reported that the Reiners’ daughter, Tracy, discovered her parents’ bodies in their Brentwood home on Sunday after they were allegedly stabbed during a holiday party argument on Saturday night. At the time, Rob Reiner and Nick Reiner reportedly got into an argument, with Nick being seen acting strangely.
The DA stated that no decision has been made regarding whether to pursue the death penalty in this case. Nick Reiner’s attorney, Alan Jackson—who previously defended Karen Read in Massachusetts—told reporters that the 32-year-old had not yet been medically cleared to appear in court.
Nick Reiner has been open about battling drug addiction since his teenage years and worked with his father on a 2016 film titled “Being Charlie,” which was based largely on his struggles with substance abuse.
