Lake County Honors Charlie Kirk with Road Renaming Following His Assassination

The Lake County Board of Commissioners in Florida has approved a resolution to rename a road in memory of Charlie Kirk following his assassination. The decision was announced by Lake County Commissioner Anthony Sabatini, who shared the news on X:
“HUGE NEWS—My Resolution to name a road in honor of the great Charlie Kirk just PASSED 5-0! Lake County is now the 1st local government in the nation to name a road after the great @charliekirk11. Thank you to my colleagues on the Lake County Commission & to Floridians across the state who supported this proposal! Hoping more counties & cities across the country follow our lead! FOR CHARLIE.”

The newly designated road, Shofield Road in Lake County near Orlando, will feature a memorial highway marker honoring Kirk’s life and legacy. Commissioner Sabatini had initially proposed renaming Wellness Way, citing its prominence as a frequently traveled route in Central Florida. He emphasized Kirk’s national significance, noting that he was among fewer than 700 people to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

The road will retain its official name, Shofield Road, but will include a brown memorial sign similar to other historical markers in the area. Charlie Kirk’s producer, Andrew Kolvet, expressed support for the initiative, highlighting the growing momentum to honor Kirk’s contributions.

The decision reflects local efforts to commemorate Kirk’s impact, with Sabatini framing it as a necessary recognition of his influence and achievements.
