House Republicans Push to Honor Charlie Kirk on U.S. Currency Following His Assassination

House Republicans have announced plans to introduce legislation aiming to commemorate Charlie Kirk by featuring his likeness on U.S. currency. Reps. August Pfluger (R-TX) and Abe Hamadeh (R-AZ) intend to propose a bill directing the U.S. Treasury to mint 400,000 silver dollar coins bearing Kirk’s image. The design would include the phrase “well done, good and faithful servant” on one side, with Kirk’s full name—“Charles James Kirk”—the year 2026, the United States’ full name, and motto on the other. The Treasury Secretary, in consultation with the president, would finalize the coin’s design.

Hamadeh praised Kirk as an “American treasure,” highlighting his dedication to national preservation and tragic death at the hands of a radical leftist. He argued that the coin would ensure Kirk’s legacy endures for future generations. Pfluger emphasized that Kirk, at 31, would become the youngest individual honored on U.S. currency, calling it a fitting tribute to his impact.

The initiative follows congressional approval of a “National Day of Remembrance” for Kirk, recognizing his contributions to civic education and public service. House Speaker Mike Johnson stated the resolution condemned political violence, though 96 Democrats opposed it. Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi, whose husband was also a victim of political violence, abstained from voting on the measure.
