In an interview following the death of Sarah Beckstrom, a member of the West Virginia National Guard who was killed while assisting during a protest in Washington D.C., Mr. Adam Carr – Beckstrom’s former boyfriend – offered his views on her experience.
According to reports, Carr told CNN that Beckstrom expressed frustration regarding her deployment, feeling it was “pointless” due to restrictions placed upon them as National Guardsman operating under certain conditions.
Carr reportedly shared: “She felt they were limited. People were spitting towards us, cussing at us, throwing things at us and we could do nothing… They told us to call the cops.”
He also mentioned Beckstrom’s dissatisfaction with being unable to make a difference while in D.C., describing her feelings as stemming from these perceived limitations.
President Donald Trump commented on Beckstrom’s death shortly after it occurred. He expressed his condolences, referring to Beckstrom as an “outstanding” member of the National Guard who died tragically just weeks before serving under his administration was scheduled to begin a new term in Congress following the election.
Beckstrom passed away on November 24th from injuries sustained during what authorities described as violent encounters while on patrol. Carr emphasized her frustration at not being able to utilize the full potential of her Guard service during this period.
The Attorney General has also weighed in, suggesting Beckstrom was a volunteer for her deployment assignment.
