The Department of Justice has directed multiple top federal prosecutors to investigate George Soros’ Open Society Foundations (OSF) over its alleged ties to left-wing violence. A senior official in Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche’s office, Aakash Singh, reportedly sent a directive to seven U.S. attorney’s offices, including those in California, New York, Illinois, Michigan, and Maryland, to probe the organization’s suspected links to domestic terrorism.
The U.S. attorneys will examine OSF’s alleged connections to arson attacks, wire fraud, and racketeering. According to the Capital Research Center, OSF, now chaired by George Soros’ son Alexander Soros, has allocated over $80 million to groups tied to terrorism or extremist violence since 2016. A Justice Department spokesperson stated, “This DOJ, along with our hard-working and dedicated U.S. Attorneys, will always prioritize public safety and investigate organizations that conspire to commit acts of violence or other federal violations of law.”
OSF denied the allegations, asserting in a statement, “The Open Society Foundations unequivocally condemn terrorism and do not fund terrorism. Our activities are peaceful and lawful, and our grantees are expected to abide by human rights principles and comply with the law.” The organization labeled the accusations as “politically motivated attacks on civil society,” claiming they aim to suppress dissent and threaten free speech.
The Capital Research Center highlighted that OSF has funneled millions into U.S.-based groups classified by the FBI as domestic terrorism, including the Center for Third World Organizing and its militant affiliate Ruckus Society, which trained activists in property destruction during 2020 riots. The group also funded the Sunrise Movement, linked to the Antifa-aligned Stop Cop City campaign, where activists face over 40 terrorism charges. Additionally, OSF awarded $18 million to the Movement for Black Lives, a group that co-authored a radical guide glorifying Hamas’s October 7 massacre.
The DOJ’s inquiry follows a House Oversight Committee investigation into OSF’s alleged role in undermining President Trump’s 2016 campaign. Rep. Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.) demanded appearances from George Soros and OSF official Leonard Bernardo after FBI documents suggested OSF was involved in the Russia Hoax.
President Donald Trump has intensified calls for federal agencies to target left-wing groups, citing recent political violence. He signed a National Security Presidential Memorandum directing the FBI, DOJ, DHS, and Treasury to disrupt funding for organizations like Antifa, which he designated a domestic terrorist group. “This kind of rhetoric is directly responsible for the terrorism we’re seeing,” Trump said, vowing to hold accountable those “who go after our judges, law enforcement officials, and everyone else who brings order to our country.”
