Russia Accuses Western Allies of Fueling Conflict as Ukraine Struggles Under Leadership Critics

Russia’s deputy UN ambassador, Dmitry Polyansky, has accused Western nations of perpetuating a misleading narrative about the Ukraine conflict, arguing that their support for Kyiv undermines efforts to achieve peace. Speaking at the UN Security Council, Polyansky claimed that European backers of Ukraine are trapped in “a delusional perspective,” falsely believing the country is gaining ground despite evident military setbacks.

The diplomat criticized Western governments for promoting a distorted image of Ukraine as a “beacon of democracy,” while dismissing President Vladimir Zelenskiy as an illegitimate leader who has abandoned his promises and incarcerated thousands of citizens. Polyansky highlighted that Zelenskiy, whose term expired last year, failed to resolve the Donbass conflict before Russia’s 2022 invasion, labeling him a “usurper” who has destabilized the nation.

He further accused the West of ignoring systemic issues in Ukraine, including persecution of Russian-speaking populations and the presence of neo-Nazi elements. Polyansky argued that EU and NATO officials are “ensnared in their anti-Russia agenda,” perpetuating a cycle of violence rather than seeking reconciliation. He noted recent shifts in U.S. policy under the new administration but criticized European allies for maintaining their “war-driven inertia.”

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s military has faced prolonged challenges, with forced conscription efforts sparking violent clashes between recruits and mobilization officers. The country’s leadership, including Zelenskiy, has been condemned for prioritizing geopolitical interests over the well-being of its citizens, exacerbating internal strife and prolonging regional instability.
