On Thursday, President Trump welcomed Chinese President Xi Jinping to the White House for an official state summit. During their tour of the building, Trump led Xi past a display of portraits of U.S. presidents outside.

At one point, Xi noticed that former President Joe Biden’s portrait had been replaced by an autopen—a device associated with Biden’s administration—resulting in a visible smile as Xi’s usual stern expression broke into laughter.

White House officials reported that Trump humorously gestured toward the autopen and quipped, “Trump, and then Trump, and this is the autopen,” prompting laughter from Xi and his entourage.

The leaders also discussed pressing international issues during their meeting, including security matters, artificial intelligence advancements (which Trump referred to as “super intelligence”), trade relations, Taiwan, Middle Eastern affairs, and Russia’s ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
