Sunny Hostin, known as Asuncion Cummings, recently claimed on The View television show that she was the holdout juror who secured a “Not Guilty By Reason of Insanity” verdict in a case involving Daniel Rakowitz.

According to her statement, Rakowitz killed his girlfriend Monika Beerle, dismembered her body, and fed it to homeless people. Hostin asserted this led to Rakowitz being committed to an asylum.

However, historical court records from 1991 indicate the holdout juror was described as an unemployed man who wanted to extend his $15-a-day juror’s fee. Asuncion Cummings (Hostin) herself stated in those records: “Yes, we believe he did it. I believe he butchered the body and almost committed the perfect crime. He knew what he was doing.”

The documents confirm Hostin was not the holdout juror but rather one of the jurors who believed Rakowitz was guilty.
