Winter Weather Wreaks Havoc on Indiana Highways

Heavy snowfall and strong winds in western Indiana led to multiple dangerous vehicle incidents over the weekend. A major pile-up occurred on I-70 near Terre Haute, involving around 45 vehicles under hazardous driving conditions.

The severe weather forced warnings from local authorities across several counties. Weather alerts covered areas including Vigo County with snow accumulation up to three inches and wind gusts reaching 35 mph. Drivers were strongly advised to slow down significantly due to “slippery roads.”

Emergency services reported widespread traffic disruptions caused by the slick conditions, which made even simple travel treacherous throughout western Indiana during what was expected to be one of the busiest travel weekends.

Residents in Vigo County experienced particularly chaotic scenes on the interstate as cars slid across lanes. Meanwhile, similar problems emerged elsewhere – including a multi-vehicle crash in Grant County where authorities said I-69 traffic was becoming “rough,” and even more crashes blocked roads throughout Delaware and Wabash Counties, keeping first responders busy.

These incidents underscore how severe winter weather conditions can lead to cascading dangers on Indiana’s roadways.
