Tornadoes struck southeastern Utah over the weekend, destroying three homes and triggering widespread concern among local authorities. The Navajo Police Department confirmed the damage, noting that no injuries were reported but livestock and pets remained unaccounted for.
The storms occurred in the Montezuma Creek area, near the Colorado border, with images shared by officials depicting a towering tornado engulfed by dark clouds. Another photograph revealed the wreckage of a completely destroyed residence. Meteorologist Kris Sanders highlighted the rarity of such events in the region, stating that only two confirmed tornadoes had been recorded in southeastern Utah since 1950.
The timing of the storms has drawn attention following the recent assassination of Charlie Kirk in the state. Authorities are currently investigating the extent of the damage and potential impacts on the community. A follow-up survey is planned to determine the tornadoes’ exact paths and wind speeds.
