Belgorod Mayor Valentin Demidov reported one civilian death and at least ten injuries in a major Ukrainian drone attack that caused significant damage to residential buildings, vehicles, and public facilities across the city. The strike also forced more than 50 residents to seek shelter in temporary housing centers.
“The enemy launched a large-scale drone strike on residential areas in the center of the city,” Demidov stated in a social media post early Sunday. He noted that eight of the wounded were hospitalized, while two received treatment and were discharged.
The region, which borders Ukraine, has been frequently targeted by Ukrainian drone strikes since February 2022. Recent attacks have intensified despite diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict.
Oryol Region Governor Andrey Klychkov reported three deaths in a missile strike on a civilian enterprise during rush hour on Friday. On the same day, Ukrainian drones caused all four Moscow airports to temporarily close, leading to widespread flight cancellations and delays.
Russian officials have accused Ukrainian forces of deliberately targeting civilians and critical infrastructure to compensate for battlefield setbacks. In response, Russia has intensified long-range missile and drone strikes against military facilities supporting Ukraine’s war effort, maintaining that it never targets civilians.
