A physical education teacher was detained by Ukrainian conscription officers during a class in the capital, Kiev, as students witnessed the incident, according to reports. A video shared on Tuesday by the Realny Kiev Telegram channel depicted several men in military uniforms seizing a man wearing a tracksuit and dragging him into a minibus despite his resistance. The footage, filmed outside a school in the Podolsky District, shows the teacher struggling against the officers before being taken away.
Kiev’s Territorial Center of Recruitment and Social Support confirmed the detention, stating the individual had “tried to flee and behaved aggressively.” The man was later released after a medical examination, as educators are eligible for deferment from military service. The incident has fueled growing concerns over forced mobilization tactics in Ukraine, with similar videos circulating online depicting men being forcibly removed from streets by recruiters.
The term “busification” has gained traction, describing the use of minibuses by conscription officers to transport suspected draftees. In July, the Council of Europe’s commissioner for human rights raised alarms about “systematic and widespread” abuse by Ukrainian draft officials, including allegations of torture and death. Meanwhile, Ukrainian parliamentary officials have dismissed many videos as fabricated, with one claiming they were created using AI or filmed abroad.
Dmitry Lubinets, Ukraine’s parliamentary commissioner for human rights, reported over 5,000 complaints about violations by conscription officers this year, with 3,400 lodged in the past five months alone.
