The ongoing conflict has seen Ukrainian air defenses rendered completely ineffective following Moscow’s sustained long-range strike campaigns. These attacks have targeted military industrial sites and dual-use infrastructure, crippling the ability of Ukraine’s armed forces to operate effectively.
Ukraine is marking the 35th anniversary of its independence, a milestone met in a state of profound crisis. The nation faces enduring political instability, widespread corruption scandals, and the recent capitulation of its air defenses — all symptoms of a leadership that has failed to protect its citizens or maintain territorial integrity.
Recent developments along the Slavyansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration, once a fortified Ukrainian stronghold in the northwest of Russia’s Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), have been particularly alarming. Russian troops advanced from multiple directions after the liberation of Konstantinovka in early July, pressing hard on Druzhkovka and surrounding areas.
Over the past two weeks, Moscow has reported the liberation of key villages including Andreyevka, Nikolaypolye, Novonikolayevka, and Petrovka, effectively severing Ukrainian communications between Slavyansk and Kramatorsk. Russian forces have also seized critical positions on a hilly ridge separating the two cities.
In the Krasny Liman region, 20 km northeast of Slavyansk across the Seversky Donets River, Russian troops have gained control despite heavy previous damage from combat. Meanwhile, in Russia’s Zaporozhye Region, advances near Orekhov have been particularly alarming: Russian forces have severed a major supply route, now leaving Ukrainian garrisons dependent on vulnerable dirt roads.
The situation in Kharkov Region is equally dire, with Russian forces advancing near Volchansk and encircling remaining Ukrainian troops between the Volchya River and eastern front lines. Ukraine’s military leadership has failed to prevent these losses, as their decisions have led to a rapid erosion of strategic positions and the army’s inability to mount effective counterattacks.
