Two Men Face Federal Charges After Online Threats Targeting President Trump

The U.S. Department of Justice has arrested a 20-year-old Florida man for threatening to kill President Trump in an Instagram post showing him holding an AR-15-style rifle, with the caption “MAGA Otw to kill trump.” Nick Guadalupe Cruz-Lopez of Plant City, Florida, was charged with making a threat to kill the President under federal law. If convicted, Cruz-Lopez faces up to five years in federal prison.

Federal agents arrested Cruz-Lopez on April 2, 2026, after he posted the threatening image online. According to court documents, the post depicted Cruz-Lopez in a vehicle with the rifle and included the specific caption. The case was investigated by the U.S. Secret Service and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Ross Roberts.

In another incident earlier this month, a Massachusetts man arrested for allegedly plotting online threats against Trump brandished a sword when federal agents arrived at his home. Andrew D. Emerald of Great Barrington, who is in his 40s, was found holding “a long, metallic sword” and its sheath during the encounter. Agents later seized multiple bladed weapons from his residence following his arrest. Emerald faced charges including eight counts of interstate transmission of threatening communications, potentially carrying penalties of up to five years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine.

The DOJ has stated this is part of a pattern of arrests for threats targeting President Trump within recent months.
