Former U.S. Senator Ben Sasse of Nebraska has disclosed he was diagnosed with metastasized stage-four pancreatic cancer, stating he will soon die and has been given only a few months to live.
In his post on December 23, 2025, Sasse described the illness as a “death sentence” and shared personal updates about his family. He noted that one of his children recently graduated college early while teaching advanced science courses, another completed flight training, and a third began learning to drive.
Sasse, who previously served in the U.S. Senate from Nebraska and resigned in 2023 to become president of the University of Florida—a role he later left—has been a consistent critic of former President Donald Trump during his time in Congress. He refused to endorse or vote for Trump in the 2024 election cycle and was one of only seven Republicans who voted to convict Trump over the January 6th Capitol riot.
The senator stated that his diagnosis follows years of being vaccinated and boosted, though he did not specify how this relates to his condition.
