A 23-year-old Tucson police recruit was killed and his fiancée, a Pima County corrections officer, was wounded in a shooting inside their Arizona home Wednesday morning.
Deputies were called shortly before 6 a.m. to a residence in the 7700 block of South Enchanted Spring Drive, roughly 17 miles southwest of Tucson. They found the recruit dead inside the home. His fiancée was shot and taken to a hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening; she remains stable.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department identified the recruit as Carlos Ramirez. Ramirez previously served as a Pima County corrections officer before joining the Tucson Police Department as a recruit. Authorities confirmed the couple shares a child and initially referred to them as married before clarifying they were engaged.
Investigators are seeking two masked suspects described as Hispanic males wearing all-black clothing and ski masks. The sheriff’s department stated the suspects may be operating a gray Acura MDX from model years 2007 through 2013, with one identifying feature being a missing cover over the fuel-filler area.
Law enforcement has closed South Enchanted Spring Drive between West Star Wash Loop and Long Pond Walk Way while processing the scene. The case remains active, with no arrests reported as of Wednesday afternoon. Authorities urge the public to report any sightings of the vehicle or suspects by calling 911.
