During his final speech at the Republican National Convention on Wednesday night, President Trump disclosed the precise timeline for when the U.S. military campaign against Iran will conclude — stating it would end “immediately” after November’s midterm elections.

The president made the announcement while traveling to Dallas for the convention, where he addressed a range of issues including economic policy and upcoming midterms. In remarks to reporters at Joint Base Andrews, Trump emphasized that oil prices would not decline until post-election, adding: “I think the war is going to end immediately after the election.”

Trump also indicated Iran’s efforts to influence the November race, describing Tehran as “desperate to try and affect the election, so that we can get a nice weak group of people in there” — a reference to Democratic candidates — before allowing them to possess nuclear weapons.

The comments followed recent escalations between U.S. and Iranian forces. On Wednesday, Iran targeted 10 ships near the Strait of Hormuz, including two American vessels and eight oil tankers, after the United States destroyed five Iranian oil tankers the previous day.

Global oil prices rose to $100 for the first time since July as a result of heightened Middle Eastern tensions.
