Trump Condemns New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for Laughing at Ground Zero 9/11 Ceremony

President Trump condemned New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for their actions during a ceremony commemorating the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks at Ground Zero in New York City.

Video footage captured the two officials smiling and laughing together as victims’ names were being read aloud. Trump, speaking to reporters before departing Ireland on Sunday, labeled the behavior “terrible,” stating: “It’s not a place to be laughing, especially in that case.”

The clip, which went viral online, was recorded at the ceremony held on Friday. It showed Mamdani and Ocasio-Cortez laughing shortly after footage captured a man weeping near the memorial waterfall. Mayor Mamdani attended the event despite public requests from former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani to stay away. Trump had previously participated in a 9/11 memorial ceremony alongside President Joe Biden and then-Vice President Kamala Harris in September 2024, where the two exchanged handshakes during the tribute.
