Tragedy Strikes Evergreen High School: Three Injured in Disturbing Shooting Incident

A shocking shooting at Evergreen High School in Colorado left three students wounded, including the suspect who survived self-inflicted gunshot injuries. The incident occurred just before 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the school located at 29300 Buffalo Park Road in Evergreen, 28 miles southwest of Denver.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Jacki Kelley confirmed that deputies arrived on the scene within two minutes of receiving calls about the shooting and made contact with the suspect within five minutes. No law enforcement officers fired weapons during the response. The suspect, a juvenile male, was hospitalized with injuries from self-inflicted shots.

St. Anthony’s Hospital in Lakewood reported treating three Evergreen High School students with gunshot wounds. Two of the victims were in critical condition, while one had non-life-threatening injuries. Kevin Cullinan, President and CEO of CommonSpirit St. Anthony Hospital, stated all three patients were receiving urgent care in the Emergency Department or operating rooms.

Law enforcement from across the Denver metro area responded swiftly, clearing the school room by room after the initial chaos. A reunification center was established at Bergen Meadow Elementary School to help parents locate their children. Sheriff Reggie Marinelli emphasized the challenges of coordinating the response but highlighted the effectiveness of preparedness efforts.

Witnesses described the turmoil, including a teacher who reported students in lockdown and a parent whose son recounted hearing 15 to 30 gunshots in the lunchroom. Updates on the situation are expected as more details emerge.
