Toyota CEO Akio Toyoda Shocks Japan with MAGA Gear at NASCAR Event

The Toyota Motor Corp. chairman hosted a patriotic-themed NASCAR event in Japan this weekend, showcasing his support for the MAGA movement by wearing a Trump-Vance 2024 shirt and a red “Make America Great Again” hat. The event, held at Fuji Speedway, featured a demonstration run of six NASCAR machines shipped over for the occasion, with star drivers including Jimmie Johnson, John Hunter Nemechek, and Kamui Kobayashi. Toyoda, who also removed his coat to reveal the Trump-Vance T-shirt, emphasized the importance of promoting American car culture in Japan while exploring ways to make tariffs a “winner for everyone.” U.S. Ambassador George Glass accompanied the Toyota executive at the Nov. 16 event, which highlighted the company’s efforts to nurture the auto industry and create stable employment. Following the event, Toyota announced a $912 million investment in U.S. manufacturing, expected to create hundreds of new jobs for Americans. The investments include $453 million toward the Buffalo, W. Va., plant to ramp up assembly of four-cylinder, hybrid-compatible engines, with additional funds going to Georgetown, Ky., Blue Springs, Miss., Jackson, Tenn., and Troy, Mo. facilities. Toyota’s philosophy is to “build where we sell,” with US manufacturing teams gearing up to meet growing demand for hybrid vehicles.
