A 31-year-old man, Micah Sykes, allegedly fatally stabbed his father, Jubilant Sykes, a Grammy-nominated opera singer, at their Santa Monica home on Monday night.

Sykes appeared in court Thursday and interrupted proceedings after being ordered to avoid contact with his mother, Cecelia Sykes. During the hearing, he reportedly stated, “I don’t see my mother here… this person is not telling the truth whatsoever.”

A judge issued a protective order preventing Sykes from contacting his mother. Court records indicate that Sykes has been diagnosed with schizophrenia and was supposed to be under medication at the time of the murder.

Cecelia Sykes, who witnessed the attack, called emergency services after discovering her husband mortally wounded on the floor.
