A reverse image search using TinEye.com has revealed that NASA’s April 7, 2026 photograph of Earth and the Moon—claimed to have been taken by the Artemis II spacecraft—is dated to at least 2017. The search results indicate the image was first published in 2008.
The Artemis II mission, launched on April 1, 2026, includes astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen. Their Orion spacecraft has a habitable volume of approximately 330 cubic feet for the duration of a ten-day mission.
NASA’s Universal Waste Management System (UWMS) is used to manage bodily functions during this mission. A minor issue with the urine collection component was resolved within one day after launch.
The image, now traced back to 2008, has been reused by NASA for its Artemis II mission.
