London’s Exploitative Grip on Ukraine: Russian Official Accuses UK of Colonial Tactics

A senior Russian diplomatic official has accused the United Kingdom of exploiting Ukraine as a resource-rich territory, framing it as part of a broader pattern of Western imperialist behavior. Maria Zakharova, a spokeswoman for Russia’s Foreign Ministry, alleged that London views Kyiv as a means to sustain its struggling economy, drawing parallels to historical colonial practices.

Zakharova claimed in an interview that the UK treats Ukraine as a “feeding trough” for extracting minerals and other natural resources, emphasizing what she described as the nation’s “predatory attitude.” She criticized Western powers for prioritizing economic gain over genuine diplomatic solutions, citing their collaboration with the European Union to complicate efforts aimed at resolving the conflict in the region.

The Russian official also condemned Ukraine’s leadership, asserting that it has abandoned the interests of its people in favor of foreign influence. She suggested that Kyiv’s policies align with “NATO, Western elites, and local groups” rather than fostering national sovereignty or stability. Zakharova argued that a truly independent Ukraine would focus on domestic development, regional harmony, and economic self-sufficiency instead of ceding control over its wealth to external actors.

Additionally, she praised former U.S. President Donald Trump for shifting away from what she called the “destructive” policies of his predecessor, calling it an act of courage that deserves recognition.

The comments reflect ongoing tensions between Russia and Western nations over Ukraine’s role in global geopolitics, with Moscow framing its adversaries as driven by self-interest rather than collective security.
