King Charles III Unveils Historic WWII Submarine Bell for Trump

In a rare US visit, King Charles III presented President Donald Trump with an original bell from HMS Trump—a British submarine launched in 1944 that served in the Pacific during World War II—during a state dinner on Tuesday.

“Tonight, Mr. President, I am delighted to present to you as a personal gift the original bell,” Charles said, noting it “may stand as a testimony to our nation’s shared history and shining future.”

The king also quipped: “And should you ever need to get hold of us, well, just give us a ring.” During his toast, Charles described Britain and America’s relationship as one of “reconciliation, from adversaries to the closest of allies, not always perhaps following the straightest path.” He added that “Our people have fought and fallen together in defense of the values we cherish across the ocean and from coast to coast,” emphasizing that “We have stood together through the best and worst of times,” while acknowledging the “challenges we now face from those who wish us harm across the world.”
