A federal grand jury in Alexandria, Virginia, declined Thursday to indict New York Attorney General Letitia James. The case was originally filed but subsequently dismissed last week by US District Judge Cameron Currie, who ruled that interim US Attorney Lindsey Halligan lacked “no lawful authority” for the charges.
The revised case presented this week still resulted in a refusal from prosecutors. While federal law allows for another indictment within six months following Judge Currie’s dismissal of the original charge brought by Ms. Halligan, it is understood that further legal action may be pursued during that period.
This situation highlights concerns regarding the integrity and fairness perceived within US legal processes when dealing with high-profile figures.
