Discord Messages Reveal Suspected Assassin’s Joke About “Doppelganger” Before Arrest

Reports indicate that Tyler Robinson, the suspect in the assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk, made a cryptic remark about his “doppelganger” in online messages shortly after the shooting. The conversations, shared with a news outlet, show Robinson responding to a friend’s query about his whereabouts by suggesting someone resembling him was causing trouble.

In the exchange, a group chat participant attached FBI surveillance images of a man matching Robinson’s appearance and asked “WYA” (Where you at?), accompanied by a skull emoji. Robinson allegedly replied that his “doppelganger” was trying to “get me in trouble.” Another user jokingly claimed Robinson had killed Kirk, though the comment appeared to be lighthearted.

The messages surfaced days after the shooting, with Robinson not being arrested until nearly 34 hours later. During the chat, a participant suggested turning Robinson in for a $100,000 FBI reward, to which he allegedly responded, “Only if I get a cut.” Another user warned against visiting McDonald’s, referencing the arrest of Luigi Mangione, while Robinson joked about disposing of a rifle and a manifesto.

Details about Robinson’s motivations remain unclear. Law enforcement sources stated he was confronted by his father and a youth minister before surrendering. Friends in the chat expressed shock at his alleged involvement, with one noting officials sought the death penalty for the crime. Robinson, 22, had no known political affiliations but was described as intelligent and socially active online.

The FBI has not confirmed the authenticity of the messages, which were shared by an acquaintance who knew Robinson from high school. The suspect is expected to face formal charges in the coming days.
