Rep. Thomas Massie found himself on the receiving end of FBI Director Dan Bongino’s criticism after claiming to have obtained a “troubling letter” accusing the FBI of targeting a whistleblower in the J6 pipe bomb investigation. Massie shared the letter on social media, suggesting the FBI was holding a meeting to identify and doxx a whistleblower who provided information regarding the still-unidentified suspect who allegedly planted pipe bombs at the RNC and DNC headquarters the night before J6.
The FBI has been seeking tips about the unknown person who placed two pipe bombs near the Democratic National Committee and Republican National Committee on Jan. 5, 2021, the night before the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. The bombs did not detonate, but the FBI has said they were “viable” and could have posed serious harm to the public. A $500,000 reward is offered to anyone who has information that may lead to the location, arrest, and conviction of the person responsible.
Massie promoted the story on social media, alleging the FBI is involved in a “cover-up.” Bongino responded by condemning Massie’s allegations, stating he had already spoken to Massie about the case on the phone and invited him for a face-to-face meeting. When Bongino tried to follow up with Massie by calling him again, he never answered. Instead, Massie used social media to run his mouth.
Bongino emphasized that the FBI leadership team will be meeting with FBI team members today, and will avail them of all the whistleblower resources they need to disclose any evidence of malfeasance in the prior administration. He also stated the FBI would ask about threads that may have gone un-pulled under prior leadership, as they are passionate about solving this case.
Despite Massie’s claims of wanting to help on the case, Bongino criticized him for shutting down an in-person meeting and described it as more political grandstanding. Shameful.
