US Mint Lists Limited Edition Gold and Silver Medals at Prices Far Exceeding Market Rates

The U.S. Mint has listed limited edition “Freedom Ringing” Gold and Silver Liberty Bell Medals on its website, with a mintage limit of 2,026 coins for each metal. The products are scheduled to begin sales on July 16, 2026.

Pricing details include:
– A 1-ounce gold coin at $19,600
– A half-ounce gold coin at $10,050
– A half-ounce silver coin at $750

As of current market rates, gold trades at approximately $4,100 per ounce and silver at about $62 per ounce. The pricing for these medals represents a premium that is significantly higher than typical numismatic values.

A financial analyst has suggested that the high markups could indicate an impending gold revaluation by President Trump’s administration ahead of America’s 250th anniversary on July 4, with Scott Bessent identified as a potential facilitator. The same analyst noted that there is no evidence to support such a revaluation and that mint collector pricing does not signal changes in official monetary policy.
