Florida Deputy Tickets Woman for Using Phone in Right Hand After Discovering She Has No Right Hand

A Palm Beach County sheriff’s deputy pulled over 36-year-old Kathleen Thomas in Lake Worth Beach, Florida, back in February. The officer accused her of holding or working a cellphone with her right hand.

Thomas revealed she does not have a right hand, showing the arm that ends at the elbow. Despite this clarification, the deputy proceeded to issue the citation.

Bodycam footage released this week captures the exchange: as the officer lectured Thomas about distracted driving, she flashed her right arm and stated, “So you want to just call this a day?” The deputy initially maintained she had a phone in her hand but later conceded, “With the right hand, perhaps not.”

Court records show Thomas received a $116 citation that was dismissed at the request of the deputy involved.
