A 13-year-old seventh-grader at Drake Middle School in Jefferson County Public Schools was prevented from reciting her pro-life slam poetry assignment during class. According to the student’s family, school staff acknowledged that the poem met all assignment requirements but barred the girl from presenting it.
The student had chosen abortion as the topic for her poem, incorporating biblical references, Dr. Seuss literature, and statistics on abortions since Roe v. Wade. Her work included verses such as: “A life is a life, no matter how small… Sixty percent of babies who weren’t intended have died because of this.”
Journalist Caleb Parke shared the complete poem online, where it quickly gained thousands of views within hours.
