Two Boone County deputies were shot Thursday night while executing a warrant at an apartment complex in Walton, Kentucky, according to officials. Law enforcement agencies responded to an active shooter situation after the incident, with multiple rounds fired and residents in surrounding areas ordered to shelter in place.
The deputies were taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where they were reported in stable condition. A man who opened fire on the officers barricaded himself inside the Towne Creek Crossing Apartments shortly after the shooting. Officials confirmed the suspect died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound during negotiations with SWAT teams.
Boone County Major Philip Ridgell described the situation as “the worst nightmare type of scenario,” noting that no other deputies or residents were injured. A criminal investigation is ongoing, with authorities emphasizing the volatile nature of the scene. Roads near the apartment complex remained closed, and a significant police presence persisted as officers secured the area.
