Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk revealed Tuesday that his team at xAI is developing a non-biased alternative to Wikipedia, stating, “We are building Grokipedia @xAI.” Musk emphasized the project as “a massive improvement over Wikipedia” and described it as “a necessary step toward the xAI goal of understanding the Universe.”
Internet developer Larry Sanger, co-founder of Wikipedia, criticized the platform’s evolution during a recent appearance on Tucker Carlson’s podcast. Sanger alleged that Wikipedia, originally designed to uphold a “neutral point of view,” has been infiltrated by left-wing activists. He highlighted concerns about anonymous administrators and the influence of paid editors, noting that 85% of the most powerful editorial accounts on Wikipedia remain unnamed.
Carlson questioned the implications of this anonymity, asking, “These are the people shaping Americans’ understanding of reality—and we don’t know who they are?” Sanger confirmed the issue, citing Wikipedia’s Section 230 immunity as a barrier to accountability. He also criticized the platform’s curated source lists, which exclude conservative outlets like Fox News and include liberal-leaning publications such as the New York Times and MSNBC.
Tech founder David Sacks echoed these concerns on X, calling Wikipedia “hopelessly biased” and warning of its impact on AI training. The discussion underscored growing skepticism about the reliability of centralized knowledge platforms.
