Trump Names Dr. Ben Carson as National Advisor for Nutrition, Health, and Housing

Dr. Benjamin S. Carson, Sr., M.D., has been sworn in as the new National Advisor for Nutrition, Health, and Housing within the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). The appointment was announced by U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke L. Rollins, who praised Carson’s qualifications to address critical issues affecting American families.

Rollins stated, “With six in ten Americans living with at least one chronic disease and rural communities facing unique challenges in housing, Dr. Carson’s insight is essential. He will play a key role in implementing the One Big Beautiful Bill’s rural health provisions and advising on policies to improve nutrition, healthcare quality, and housing accessibility.”

Carson, who previously served as the 17th Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development under President Trump, will now act as the USDA’s chief spokesperson on nutrition, rural healthcare, and housing. His responsibilities include collaborating with the President’s Make America Healthy Again Commission and guiding efforts to revamp dietary policies.

The retired neurosurgeon, renowned for his medical achievements including pioneering surgeries on conjoined twins, has also received accolades such as the Presidential Medal of Freedom. USDA emphasized that Carson will work alongside HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to advance the MAHA agenda, focusing on updating federal dietary guidelines and restricting SNAP benefits for junk food purchases.

Carson expressed gratitude for the opportunity, stating, “Through common-sense policymaking, we can equip vulnerable families with tools to thrive.” His role underscores his continued influence in shaping national health and housing initiatives under the Trump administration.
