A report by NBC News claimed Pentagon leaders are exploring a new recruitment initiative aimed at inspiring young Americans to honor the legacy of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk and enlist in the military. The outlet cited “two officials” who allegedly had insight into the proposal. One potential slogan, according to the report, was “Charlie has awakened a generation of warriors.” Anthony Tata, undersecretary of defense for personnel and readiness, is reportedly spearheading the effort, with plans to leverage Kirk’s organization, Turning Point USA, as recruitment hubs at schools nationwide. The officials suggested recruiters might attend events or promote military service through the chapters. President Donald Trump has credited Kirk and Turning Point USA with aiding his 2024 election victory.
The report noted that Pentagon leaders have not finalized timelines for the campaign, and its viability remains uncertain. Some officials have expressed concerns it could be perceived as exploiting Kirk’s death, despite him never serving in the armed forces. However, a Pentagon spokesperson categorically denied the claims. Kingsley Wilson, press secretary, told Fox News Digital the report was “100% wrong,” accusing NBC of spreading “false claims based on anonymous sources.” A separate statement from chief spokesman Sean Parnell criticized media outlets for fabricating stories to undermine the administration, stating, “Under the strong leadership of President Trump and Secretary Hegseth, men and women are coming out in droves to serve this great nation.” The article, written by reporter Courtney Kube, referenced unnamed officials who described discussions about a recruitment campaign framed as a national “call to service.”
