22-Year-Old Charged in Alleged Plot to Assassinate New Hampshire Governor

A 22-year-old man from Hooksett, New Hampshire, has been arrested on charges of criminal threatening and harm or threats against government officials after allegedly plotting to kill Gov. Kelly Ayotte. Tristan Anderson faces accusations that he threatened to commit homicide or assault against the governor, citing intent to influence her actions or retaliate for duties performed in her role.

According to a criminal complaint, Anderson allegedly sent messages on Snapchat to a woman, stating, “I’m going to target the NH Mayor Kelly ayott… With my weapon of mass destruction.” He also made antisemitic remarks during the exchanges. The woman informed authorities that Anderson owned firearms and had discussed constructing pipe bombs, showing her metal tubes intended for explosive devices along with components like nuts and bolts. Police revealed he purchased fireworks and disassembled them to create the bombs.

Anderson was taken into custody on August 28 and remains in jail without bail ahead of a November 20 dispositional conference. Prosecutors may pursue additional charges as the case progresses. Legal experts have emphasized the importance of monitoring further developments in the investigation.

The arrest follows rising concerns about political violence, including the recent killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Meanwhile, Ayotte has acknowledged discussions with state legislators and law enforcement regarding security measures for officials, though she noted that significant changes would require legislative action. A State House safety official confirmed no specific threats against lawmakers or staff had been reported.
